On March 24, 2021, NC State hosted its third annual Day of Giving and overall raised a stunning $58,103,657 to help advance research, student learning experiences, and increase and expand educational access opportunities.
Specifically, in a joint outreach effort, the Office of Global Engagement’s units raised $7,840.94 for the International Student Support Fund through 66 generous gifts and $5,515.64 for the Study Abroad Fund through 45 thoughtful contributions.
These donations enable students to think and do globally both abroad in the world and here at home at NC State.
The International Student Support Fund assists international students who may experience unexpected financial hardships throughout their academic journey at NC State. Unlike many U.S. citizens who are eligible for U.S. government-funded aid, international students do not have access to such resources. “The International Student Support Fund opens doors to help cover disparities in financial resources our students may experience due to unforeseen circumstances. Our office is so grateful for the many staff, faculty, alumni, students, and friends of the university who have contributed to our fund over the years,” says Asia King, International Program Coordinator for the Office of International Services. This fund has been especially impactful throughout the past year as many students have experienced excessive hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Study Abroad Fund is crucial for enabling access to study abroad opportunities, allowing every member of the Pack to gain the knowledge and skills to be successful in our increasingly diverse and interconnected world. “In 2021-22, we expect applications from students with high financial need to reach record numbers,” says Seth Parrish, Assistant Director for Study Abroad. The money raised for the Study Abroad Fund through this year’s Day of Giving will be helping immensely to satisfy such demand.
The Office of Global Engagement would like to thank everyone who contributed to our International Student Support Fund and to our Study Abroad Fund during Day of Giving! Your support means the world to us and our students.
