The Confucius Institute (CI) partnered with The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) to host a “Business After Hours” networking event at NC State’s Hunt Library on October 12. Over 100 attendees from local businesses, NC State University and Chamber members were present. The Chamber is the Triangle’s largest business membership organization—made up of more than 2,500 member firms representing two-thirds of the private sector employment in Wake County. The CI joined the Chamber in 2015 to connect with Raleigh businesses to expand partnership with more global companies.
The event was hosted for Chamber and NC State participants to network with others interested in Raleigh’s international community. The event was also a part of a series of events to highlight CI’s 10th anniversary (2007- 2016). The CI had a birthday cake, slideshow of pictures highlighting CI’s 10 years, welcome remarks by leaders and a scavenger hunt where members learned about CI programs to win Chinese cultural prizes. Members were able to learn a few Chinese phrases, practice Chinese calligraphy, practice Taichi, enjoy Chinese food and network with others interested in global education. NC State’s International Affairs and Global Training Initiative had tables for members to learn how to connect more with the university’s international initiatives.
