Awards and Recognition

Below are the descriptions and nomination processes of the major awards that our office typically participates in, as well as a few others to be aware of within the university and in international higher education in general.

Global Engagement Awards (Office of Global Engagement’s Annual Awards):

  • Ginger Davis Outstanding Service Award: Recognizes an employee who demonstrates outstanding service to Global Engagement by going above and beyond their scope of work
  • Campus Outreach Award: Recognizes an employee for work that contributes to advancing and integrating diversity and cross-cultural initiatives on campus
  • Rookie of the Year Award: Recognizes an employee who has excelled in the first 18 months of their position
  • Think and Do Award: Recognizes an employee who exhibits resourcefulness, an innovative spirit, and implements new processes to significantly impact the productivity and efficiency of Global Engagement

Nomination period: Late October-Thanksgiving
Number of recipients: One per award
Awarded at Global Engagement winter retreat in December

Pride of the Wolfpack Award:

  • The Pride of the WolfPack Award is a “spot award” designed to recognize individual employees for a special or unique contribution to their college or unit or to the campus community. The award is intended to acknowledge the special achievements, notable accomplishments, meritorious behavior, or exemplary performance of employees in our division. This may include, but is not limited to, innovative initiatives, exceptional leadership, engagement with the community, campus outreach, and business operations.
  • Anyone in the Office of Global Engagement can submit a nomination for Pride of the Wolfpack. It is not necessary for every unit to feel they must nominate an employee for this award; only nominate an employee if there is an action or contribution you feel is notably worth recognizing.
  • To submit a nomination, visit and choose “Office of the Provost” when submitting. Let Carl Thomas know you’ve submitted a nomination.

Nomination period: Year-round
Number of recipients: One per year
Awarded at Global Engagement winter retreat in December

Provost Unit Awards for Excellence and University Awards for Excellence:

  • Candidates should demonstrate excellence in their departments or divisions, the NC State campus community, the State of North Carolina or the lives of others. The University Awards for Excellence represent the NC State’s highest honor for non-faculty members. Each nominee demonstrates excellence in one of the following areas: customer service, efficiency and innovation, human relations, outstanding state government service, public service, heroism, and the spirit of North Carolina.
  • Continue to nominate via your units; we will communicate about deadlines and can support by helping with nomination writing.
