Partner Profile: Charles University

Charles University is located in Prague, and much like the city where it’s located, the university is a modern, dynamic and cosmopolitan institution of higher education. It was founded in 1348, which also makes it one of the oldest universities in Europe. It is the largest and most renowned Czech university, enrolling nearly 50,000 students, or about a sixth of all students in the Czech Republic.

Charles University is also a key partner for the NC State European Center in Prague. NC State students get an intensive Czech immersion course as part of their orientation. Students are also enrolled as students at the university, which allows them to access the libraries, dining halls, student activities and clubs, reduced price transportation passes and other student discounts.

Expanding from its original four faculties – theology, liberal arts, law, and medicine – Charles University today is a multi-disciplinary, research-oriented and outward-looking institution, a successful member of the European higher education area, and one of the top universities worldwide.  The comprehensive areas of study offered at Charles University encompass most fields and areas in humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and medicine.

The deadline for students to enroll in the Spring 2021 Classic Program at NC State Prague is September 15. Visit their website for more details.
