Welcome to NC State
Deciding whether and where to study in the United States can be an exciting, yet difficult decision for prospective students, perhaps now more than ever. There is no denying that the past months have presented new challenges and concerns if you’re considering coming to the United States to study. On behalf of NC State University and our campus partners and colleges, we would like to say – you are welcome here.
NC State embraces a Think and Do culture which encompasses all of our students. We support international students, and we do everything we can to make NC State as much your university as it is our university.
International students are involved in all aspects of student life. NC State strives to help international students feel at home and integrated into the university community through the Office of International Service’s programs, high-impact practices, engaged academic colleges and departments, professional development programs, and hundreds of student-run organizations and clubs that represent the national, religious, social, academic, and recreational aspects of the entire student population.
Over 3,800 international students study at NC State each year.

With nearby Durham and Chapel Hill, Raleigh anchors the Research Triangle, a national hothouse for high-tech enterprise. The top companies in the region — including IBM, Cisco Systems, SAS Institute, Biogen Idec and GlaxoSmithKline — are among the country’s best employers. They also lead the way in hiring new NC State graduates.
Each year, several hundred of NC State’s international students co-op with these companies and other top employers throughout the U.S. and many go on to work for them after they graduate. Some of the world’s best and brightest come to study, work and live in this part of North Carolina. As a result, the Triangle is home to a diverse, global, educated, and progressive population.
Raleigh is small but sophisticated. It’s a southern U.S. city that is friendly and hospitable. Raleigh values cultural diversity thanks largely to the immigrants from around the world who have come to call the city their home. NC State and Raleigh are exceptional places to be an international student. You are welcome here, and we look forward to you joining our community of students and scholars.
Our international students represent over 120 countries.
The top four countries they arrive here from? India, China, South Korea, and Iran.

"Getting accepted into NC State is still one of my greatest achievements. When I came to campus, I wanted to do more and get to know more people around the university. I wanted to take advantage of the diversity here so I joined some clubs, social clubs and academic clubs, like the Honor Fraternity. All of these have been great opportunities for me to get to know people with different backgrounds and interests."
"NC State’s faculty and professors are definitely one of a kind and offer outstanding teaching styles and are constantly trying to help us all succeed."
