Distinguished Global Alumni Award

NC State honors the outstanding achievements of former international students

Each year, the Alumni Association recognizes members of the Wolfpack who have made outstanding contributions to NC State in their career, profession or community. They are examples of how we demonstrate our Think and Do mindset. Individuals honored have enriched NC State history and exemplify the value and prominence of an NC State degree.

The Distinguished Global Alumni Award honors an international graduate of NC State who has made exceptional contributions to their profession and community, and who represents the Think and Do spirit to the wider world. 

Distinguished accomplishments may include helping to solve a global problem, contributing new knowledge to their field, supporting the professional development of young people, achieving success in industry or innovation or bringing distinction to NC State in other ways.

Nominations

The call for Alumni Achievement Award nominations opens on March 1 of each year and the deadline for submissions is March 31. Please visit the Alumni Achievement Awards page for additional information.

Eligibility

  • Received a degree from NC State
  • Was an international student while at NC State
  • May currently live in the U.S. or in another country
  • Priority will be given to alumni who have continued their connections to NC State after graduation. Examples may include collaboration with current faculty or students, participation in a regional alumni club, or encouraging new students to attend NC State. 
  • Alumni who are current NC State employees are not eligible for this award.

2025 Distinguished Global Alumni Award honors Xu She

Xu She, the senior director of engineering for Lunar Energy and the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Global Alumni Award, received similar advice when he graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China and “took his shot” when he joined the doctoral program in electrical engineering at NC State University in 2009.
