Dr. Dmitri Zaykin Posthumously Awarded the 2021 Distinguished Global Alumni Award

The Distinguished Global Alumni Award honors alumni who were international students while here at NC State and have used their education to distinguish themselves through outstanding achievements. Distinguished accomplishments may include helping to solve a global problem, contributing important new knowledge to their field, supporting the professional development of young people, achieving success in industry or innovation, or in other ways bringing distinction to themselves and to NC State.

2021 Distinguished Global Alumni Award: Recipient

Dr. Dmitri Zaykin (posthumous) 

  • Senior researcher in the NIEHS Biostatistics Branch
  • Ph.D. in Biomathematics, Class of 1999

NC State Global is proud to honor Dr. Zaykin posthumously. His former colleague and friend, Dr. Dahlia Nielsen accepted the award on his behalf.

Dr. Dmitri Zaykin was an international alumnus of the class of 1999, earning his Ph.D. in Biomathematics. He held various research positions at North Carolina State University’s Statistics Department and at GlaxoSmithKline before joining the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in 2004. At NIEHS, Dr. Zaykin was a leader in the development of methods for studying environmental health and published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles that focus on the roles of genetic and environmental susceptibility factors in human disease. Dr. Dmitri Zaykin was an international alumnus of the class of 1999, earning his Ph.D. in Biomathematics.. We, the Office of Global Engagement, want to specifically thank everyone who has made a contribution to our International Student Support Fund in Dr. Zaykin’s memory. 2021 Distinguished Global Alumni Award: Finalist

Ms. Sreeranjani Kuppuswami Pattabiraman

  • Sr. Technical Writer, Extreme Networks Inc.,
  • Master of Science in Technical Communication, Class of 2015

Ms. Pattabiraman graduated from NC State in 2015 with a Master of Science in Technical Communication (MSTC) and currently works as a Sr. Technical Writer for Extreme Networks Inc. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Society for Technical Communication (STC) since 2016, holding a variety of positions. In 2017, she received the Award of Excellence in the field of Technical Communication by STC Carolina Competitions. Ms. Pattabiraman is a mentor for the Technical Communication Association (TCA) student chapter of the MSTC program at NC State. She helps to promote the MSTC program to potential students, both domestic and international, as well as informing current MSTC students about internship, job and scholarship opportunities through the STC.
