Description

This semester-long workshop series is designed to equip NC State faculty with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to integrate global perspectives into their teaching, research, and service activities. Through monthly seminars from January to May 2025, participants will explore key aspects of international higher education, including university linkages, curriculum development, study abroad programs, supporting international students and scholars, and fostering international research collaborations.

Each monthly session will focus on a specific topic related to global engagement. Participants will be assigned light reading materials prior to each meeting to provide a foundation for seminar-style discussions. These interactive sessions will encourage faculty to share experiences, ask questions, and collaboratively develop strategies for enhancing the global aspects of their work.

The 2024-25 program will culminate in a week-long global learning workshop at the Université Côte d’Azur (UniCA) in Nice, France. This capstone experience will provide practical insights and strategies for advancing global learning and preparing students for success in an interconnected world. The collaborative workshop will be co-hosted by NC State’s Office for Faculty Excellence, Office of Global Engagement and faculty and administrative leaders from UniCA. UniCA Workshop dates: June 23-27, 2025.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the Global Engagement Institute, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how NC State develops and sustains international programs and partnerships.
  • Develop strategies and action plans for integrating global perspectives, content and/or hands on experiences into their courses and research projects.
  • Foster inclusive learning environments that engage international students and scholars within classroom and research settings.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for international research collaborations, including funding sources, partnership models, and best practices for cross-border projects.
  • Articulate the value of global engagement at the individual, unit and university level. 

Eligibility

  • This program is open to full-time, permanent NC State faculty (all tracks). 
  • Applications must be submitted using official NCSU email accounts. 
  • Participants must attend all Spring 2025 on-campus workshops to be eligible for travel funding and participation in the workshop June 23-27 in Nice. 
  • Funds awarded must be used for travel to the June 2025 workshop in Nice. 

Preference will be given to:

  • First-time GEI applicants
  • Applicants who have not received other forms of OGE funding for the last three years.

  • Deadline for applications: December 1, 2024, 11:59 p.m. EST
