NC State Nabs International Scholarships
From China to the Czech Republic, 16 NC State students (and one graduate) are conducting projects all over the world as recipients of international scholarships and fellowships. Meet these extraordinary scholars below.
Fulbright Scholars
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. It is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the federal government.
Zachary Campbell
Study/research grant to France
A doctoral student in chemical and biomolecular engineering, Campbell will conduct research at the University of Bordeaux that aims to improve carbon dioxide absorption as a method for reducing emissions across a number of industries.
Paul Nolan
English Teaching Assistantship to Norway
Nolan, who earned bachelor’s degrees in materials engineering and political science from NC State in 2017, is a fellow of the Institute of Emerging Issues. At the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and Ås Upper Secondary School, he will explore the Norwegian education system to learn about practices and policies that might be used to improve educational equity and advancement in the U.S.
Alexander Wall
Study/research grant to Germany
A 2019 graduate of the Department of Biological Sciences, Wall will examine the primary cilia (hair-like structures on the surface of cells) of axolotls (a type of salamander) and their role in regeneration. He’ll work at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden, which is associated with the Technische Universität Dresden.
Delaney Thibodeau, a senior psychology major, was selected as an alternate for the Health and Wellness Program at UK Stirling University.
Fulbright Canada Killam Fellowships
The Killam Fellowships program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from U.S. universities to spend either one semester or a full academic year as exchange students in Canada.
As a Killam Fellow, freshman anthropology major Kees Koopman will spend his sophomore year exploring anthropology and linguistics at McGill University in Montreal.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships
The U.S. Department of State’s Gilman Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad. NC State had 13 Gilman Scholars over the last year.
