Lunar New Year Celebration: The Year of the Dragon
On Thursday, Feb. 8, NC State’s Office of Global Engagement held its annual Lunar New Year celebration, drawing nearly 300 attendees from the university community and beyond. This year, 2024, is the year of the dragon.
Headed by Allison Haskins, Global Programs Coordinator, with the help from Allison Kloiber, Global Programs intern, and several Global Ambassadors, this event is organized to honor the year of the dragon, showcasing its significance through a variety of music, food, and diverse cultural activities.
Featuring a performance by NC State’s Korean pop (KPACK) dance group, attendees participated in various cultural activities, including calligraphy demonstrations by the Crafts Center at NC State, shuttlecock games hosted by the Chinese Undergraduate Student Association (CUSA) and Origami Club workshops.
The Global Ambassadors organized interactive stations, such as trivia , wishing trees, and a postcard writing station, allowing attendees to extend well wishes across the world.
One of the highlights of the event was a special appearance by Bao Bao the panda, adding excitement to the festivities. Special thanks were extended to Rave Catering for providing delicious cupcakes, adding a sweet touch to the celebration.
The Lunar New Year celebration was a success, bringing the community together to honor the year of the dragon. Thanks to all attendees whose participation enriched the event, and we look forward to next year’s celebration.
