Where Are They Now? New content coming to the Alumni and Friends Newsletter this Fall
NC State international alumni come from, work, and live all over the globe. NC State is proud to be home to the most diverse student body in North Carolina hosting students from 117 different countries. Each year, 500-1,000 international students graduate with Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees from every academic college. Even after their time as students is over, they continue to be a part of our global Wolfpack community throughout their life. And whether they are here in Raleigh or across the world, alumni are making their mark through their work and life experiences.
Where do they go next?
This fall, NC State Global is introducing a new section to its Alumni and Friends newsletter entitled “Alumni Spotlight: Where Are They Now?”. Each month will focus on an international alum who will share a piece of their journey after graduating, what they are currently doing, where they are living and thoughts on their time and experiences at NC State. Our goal is to connect readers to stories of former classmates, spark memories of favorite NC State moments and mentors, and to provide advice to recent alumni.
Meet Carolin Lehmann
To start off, we would like to highlight our very own NC State Global Communication Specialist, Carolin Lehmann. Carolin first came to NC State in 2015 as an F1 student from Germany pursuing her graduate degree in Communication. She graduated in 2017 and worked in marketing for an insurance brokerage company until rejoining NC State as staff in 2019. Before joining NC State Global, Carolin worked as Communications & Events Coordinator for the ASSIST Center. She officially joined NC State Global in November 2020.
One of her favorite memories about her time as a student at NC State was to go to football and basketball games as well as attending Packapalooza at the beginning of each fall semester. She can also only advise every student (international and domestic) to take advantage of all the free resources available on campus, but especially the career development center. “The Career Development Center helped me so much by revising my German formatted resume to fit ‘the American way.’ Although I have a M.S. in communication and am confident in my public speaking ability, I still did mock interviews and discussed the do’s and don’ts of interviewing in the United States which is much different than in my home country,” says Carolin. Ultimately, Carolin’s main reason for going back to NC State as a staff member was to give back to the NC State and its student body.
