A Change in Leadership for the NC State European Center in Prague

The Office of Global Engagement has announced a change in leadership at the NC State European Center in Prague.

Peter Kjaer is stepping down from his role as Director as of May 11. Under Kjaer’s leadership, NC State Prague has become a key international hub for the university, expanding global engagement opportunities for students and faculty in the Czech Republic and Europe.

Effective May 16, Heidi Hobbs will oversee the day-to-day operations of NC State Prague while conducting a review of existing programs, and on or about July 1 she will begin serving as Interim Director.

Hobbs currently serves as the director of the Master of International Studies program in the School of Public and International Affairs within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She has a long history running programs in Prague and most recently taught at the University of Economics in Prague as a Fulbright Scholar during the Fall 2017 semester. A search for the permanent director will be launched this summer.

This summer, NC State Prague has its largest-ever summer enrollment with a total of 112 students in various programs at the center. A majority of these students will arrive on Monday, May 14 and will begin orientation on Tuesday, including a city tour of Prague and sessions on how to navigate public transportation, Czech food, culture, language, and more.
