Partner Profile: SKEMA Business School

NC State hosts SKEMA Business School’s U.S. campus on our Centennial Campus. SKEMA is one of the top business schools in France with additional satellite campuses in China and Brazil.

The School of Knowledge Economy and Management, or SKEMA, is a global business school with campuses located within research parks. The school’s design follows a unique model, created to manage students’ movements based on balance and diversity.

In 2009, SKEMA selected NC State over several other locations as its site for its U.S. campus. SKEMA was drawn to the region given the world-renowned reputation of the Research Triangle Park and the quality of its higher education system. NC State welcomes 200+ new students to campus each year.

The French business school conducts joint programs and classes with the Poole College of Management, including the dual degree Global Luxury and Management graduate program between the Raleigh and Paris campuses. The Global Training Initiative (GTI), a unit of the Office of Global Engagement, helps orient, connect, and integrate the SKEMA students into the NC State and surrounding community.

As part of their orientation, every SKEMA student must complete the U.S. Culture and Business course taught by the GTI in their first semester in Raleigh. Their experience in the course goes beyond the classroom as they are immersed in the American business culture. The GTI works to teach the students about campus partnerships, enterprise, and networking, with trips to Howling Cow, HQ Raleigh, and the Durham Bulls.

Students also participate in various cultural, community service, and academic activities as part of the Cultural Exchange Network. As part of their coursework, students reflect on the cultural differences between campus life in Raleigh versus back home.

SKEMA operates from six different sites: in France (Lille, Paris La Defense and Sophia Antipolis), China (Suzhou), in the U.S. (Raleigh, North Carolina), and in Brazil (Belo Horizonte). In total, the school supports 7,000 students studying at the bachelor, masters, and Ph.D. levels.
