The NC State Office of Global Engagement in partnership with the NC State Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs invites applications for associate membership in the Young Academy for Sustainability Research (YAS) at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS). FRIAS is housed at the University of Freiburg, and NC State institutional partner. This opportunity is open to early-career faculty members at NC State interested in sustainability research within transformative city-regions or human-technology-environment relations.

Benefits

  • Travel, accommodation, and office space at FRIAS in Freiburg for one month annually over three years.
  • Quarterly meetings in Freiburg (three days) for project discussions and collaborations.
  • Draw on a budget of €160,000 available for projects.
  • International focus with diverse project formats.

Eligibility

  • Non-tenured faculty with an assistant professor rank
  • NC State faculty members who obtained their doctoral degree within the last 2-6 years

Timeline

  • Applications due April 25, 2024
  • Notifications to be sent out via email by May 15, 2024

Application Requirements

  • Interest Statement:
    • A 1-page statement detailing your idea related to transformative city regions or human-technology-environment relations with an interdisciplinary approach and how it will advance your career.
  • Letter of Support from the department head.
  • 2-page curriculum vitae
