Steve Bergman Named Director of Sponsored Student Programs
The Office of Global Engagement welcomes Steve Bergman as Director of Sponsored Student Programs. In this new position, Bergman will serve as a primary point of contact for student sponsors (international governments, non-governmental agencies, nonprofits, corporations, etc.) and will be a liaison between sponsors, students and various academic and administrative offices at NC State.
More than 100 sponsored students — supported by a third party committed to paying the students’ tuition and/or other fees — attend NC State. Bergman will work with these students and their academic departments to monitor their progress and provide direction to academic and professional resources.
Bergman will also collaborate with campus administrative offices, the Graduate School, University Cashier’s Office and others to streamline processes and procedures related to sponsored students. Additional responsibilities include recruiting new sponsored students as well as new sponsor entities.
A native of North Dakota, Bergman earned his Bachelor of Arts in history from Whittier College and his Master of Arts in international education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to joining the Office of Global Engagement, he worked for the International Baccalaureate and in various international programming and advising roles at Duke University.
