Dancing Around the World Returns in March

Dancing Around the World is returning on March 13 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Talley Student Union’s Coastal Ballroom. This free event, sponsored by the Staff Senate, combines dance instruction, performances, and open dancing and is open to all NC State staff, faculty, and students. Come join the fun and learn new dance steps from our diverse guest dancers. Registration is required.

Last February, more than 100 staff, faculty, and students danced the night away during the Dancing Around the World social dance to celebrate the diversity of dance from different regions of the world. We celebrated dance in Witherspoon’s Sankofa Room with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. Our NC State ballroom dance team, Dancing with Wolves, taught fun, mini dance lessons in the merengue, swing, and waltz. Participants learned the cultural influences behind each of these dances. During the open-dance session, everyone had a chance to show off what they had learned.

The highlights of the evening were the student and staff performances. The Shimmy Squad, the Pack Cloggers, and Dancing with Wolves were among the student groups showcasing their unique styles of dance. Dr. Yang Mei, visiting professor with the Confucius Institute, impressed the audience with her Chinese Classical Dance.

Mark your calendars and join us for an evening of dance, performances, music, and fun.
