A Google Earth Tour: Race, History, and Politics in Trevor Noah’s South Africa

November 11, 2019 | 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Using Google Earth technology and historic photographs displayed on Hunt Library’s large-scale Game Lab screen, NC State’s Dr. Timothy Hinton will provide a historical framework for issues Trevor Noah tackles in his book Born a Crime, this year’s Common Reading selection. Virtually traveling throughout South Africa, we will see images of places and spaces mentioned in the book, as well learn about apartheid and the struggle for liberation. Dr. Hinton is a professor of philosophy and is originally from South Africa, earning his BA and MA from Wits University in Johannesburg. Space is limited; please reserve your space at go.ncsu.edu/bornacrimetour.
