NC State Global Welcomes New 2023 Summer Staff

Meet NC State Global’s new summer staff.

Maggie Agnew, International Programs Coordinator, European Center in Prague

Maggie Agnew

Maggie Agnew, the previous Global Programs Assistant in the Office of Global Engagement, joins the European Center in Prague as a proud Pack alum. She received her master’s degree in International Studies from NC State and her bachelor’s in Communication from the University of Memphis. Originally from Tennessee, Maggie has studied abroad in London, England, and backpacked through 12 countries across Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. She has worked previously with the Office of Global Engagement and is thrilled to continue her professional journey at State with the Prague team. She is looking forward to working with students in the Pack!

Mansir Petrie, Assistant Director of Study Abroad Advising, Study Abroad

Mansir Petrie

As Assistant Director of Study Abroad Advising, Mansir is responsible for directing student advising, supervising the advising team, and the strategic management of exchange, direct enroll, affiliate and summer partner programs.

Mansir received a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology and environmental studies from Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA and a Masters of Science in International Sustainable Development from SOAS University of London in the UK. He has lived and worked around the world, including Bhutan, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Kenya, Mozambique, Panama, Russia and the United States.

His passion for travel and cross-cultural interactions all began with his first study abroad experience in Kenya and Tanzania with the School for International Training. Mansir’s foray into Study Abroad started while he worked for Hartwick College as the Associate Director for Global Education and Service Learning. He then moved to Bolivia where he continued to work on supporting international students visiting Bolivia, including co-leading a Hartwick College course to Bolivia and overseeing a language institute in La Paz. Mansir is excited to work with his team to encourage and motivate NC State students to study abroad!

Prior to coming to NC State, Mansir worked for the Peace Corps in Panama as the Response Program Manager. During his off time, Mansir is an avid cyclist and loves to read!

Markéta Suttnerová, Student Affairs and Program Coordinator, European Center in Prague

Marketa Suttnerova

Markéta Suttnerová joined NC State European Center from the non-profit sector, where she was working with People in Need. Before that, she used to work in the Czech Academy of Sciences and the private sector. She briefly studied photography and anthropology. Markéta used to volunteer at the Center for Immigrants to become a fellow citizen and organized short-term art-exhibitions-oriented trips around Europe. She enjoys quiet places in her free time, occasionally interrupted by music of all kinds, classic literature and fresh air.

Rachael Mathis, International Programs Coordinator, Study Abroad

Rachael Mathis

Rachael joined the Study Abroad Office in June of 2023. As an International Programs Coordinator, Rachael collaborates with NC State faculty on short-term and semester-long programs for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She also serves as a liaison for the office software, Terra Dotta, and manages the International Travel Gateway. Rachael holds a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from NC State, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a minor in Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. As a first generation college student, Rachael’s first time on a plane was when studied abroad on a faculty-led Spanish language program in Madrid, Spain over the summer of her freshman year. She then spent the Fall of her junior year studying abroad in Sydney, Australia. Following graduation, she taught English as a second language in Barcelona, Spain.

After returning to the United States, Rachael worked for Duke University as an Assistant International Student and Scholars Advisor. Prior to joining the Study Abroad Office, Rachael was a Graduate Assistant within the Poole College of Management Global Programs team, where she had the opportunity to lead students on study abroad programs with focuses in business, entrepreneurship, and risk management to countries including Spain, Switzerland, and Australia. She also obtained an internship in
Piacenza, Italy over the summer of her graduate program.

Originally from Western NC, Rachael is an avid hiker, traveler, loves any kind of exercise, meeting new people and trying new recipes.

Katey Yang, Program Specialist, Global Training Initiative

Katey Yang

Shuchun “Katey” Yang is a program specialist at the Global Training Initiative, helping to develop and implement academic programs as well as providing support for program and office management.

Katey joined GTI in August 2023 as a program specialist. Previously, she worked at Florida International University where she supported international students who were studying in business programs in the U.S. She also assisted with partnership building in the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to entering academia, she worked in marketing and sales management in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry both in China and in the U.S.

Katey earned her bachelor’s degree in Business English at Beijing Jiaotong University in China and her MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University. She is a global citizen who has lived in several states across the U.S. and in cities throughout China and continues to develop a global mindset with travels to the Caribbean islands and a desire to learn more about the countries and cultures in South America. She’s very excited to work in the GTI and help students experience the world at home and abroad.
