Study Sport Programs and Facilities in the United Kingdom
Have you ever wanted to study abroad? Learn more about studying Sport Programs and Facilities in the United Kingdom and other NC State study abroad opportunities!
Michael Edwards, Associate Professor of Community Sport and Recreation, and Kyle Bunds, Associate Professor of Sport and Sustainable Community Development, teach the summer study abroad course, Sport Programs and Facilities. This program gives students the opportunity to engage with industry professionals and scholars who provide international perspectives on sports programs and sustainable facility management.
This course was first developed by Edwards in Sport Management when he started taking students to the UK over spring break. The new iteration allows students to take PRT 366: Sport Programming (3 credits) and PRT 478: Sustainable Sport Facility Management (3 credits) for about two and a half weeks in London. “Sport programming is all about putting on events,” says Bunds. The course design showcases video recordings and lectures for students to watch on their own and debrief before doing on-site visits.
“I was at the Oval in early October. Their sustainability coordinator talked about asparagus being shipped overseas and its high sustainability and environmental impact. We are trying to get students in front of sustainability experts” says Bunds. This exposure helps students evaluate sustainability from a global lens. Every aspect of the class relates to sustainability.
This course is built on the environment, economics, and equity. Students are encouraged to consider sustainability and the impact of sustainable regulations. NC State has built a commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals or Global Goals. This course is tied to these Global Goals.
There are 14 spots available for this course, and the application deadline is February 7. Apply now for this unique opportunity and other study abroad opportunities!
