Global Leadership Minor Adds New Track in France
The Global Leadership Minor (GLM) program is an excellent opportunity for students to gain greater knowledge and understanding of leadership and team decision-making from global and European perspectives. The Shelton Leadership Center and NC State European Center in Prague have successfully worked together to offer this unique program since 2019. A track has been added to the program with a new European location: France. This addition will enable more students to participate in the program.
This competitive program is designed for students from any academic discipline to develop into cross-disciplinary, globally-minded leaders within any professional field they seek beyond graduation.
The GLM coursework is grounded in theory, inquiry, and application. It comprises courses designed to provide students with a broad understanding of working more collaboratively, creatively, and effectively with people from disciplines outside their origination and, more importantly, from other cultures. “As a team coach, I teach students to work as a team. Students are inquisitive, motivated, and open to everything new. What I see as the program’s strong point is the possibility for students to meet new cultures, conditions, and opportunities,” says Václav Švec, Faculty and Head of the Study Programme Innovative Entrepreneurship at Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.
Participants take classes together and travel as a cohort in the Czech Republic and two other European countries, allowing them to gain valuable experience working across disciplines and cultures. Students will experience different cultures and the teaching style of local faculty.
“This program has taught me much more than leadership. Adapting to new environments and cultures has made me more aware of the culture surrounding me at home. I am more willing to venture outside my comfort zone and explore as I did abroad.” Sarah Rosk, a dual degree student in Economics and International Studies, reflected on her study abroad experience in 2020.
Next spring, the GLM is adding a new destination: France. Now two tracks are available, and Prague will be the base for both tracks. Track one will travel to Austria and the United Kingdom, and track two will travel to Germany and France.
The GLM is an excellent choice for students interested in developing their leadership skills and team decision-making while gaining valuable experience abroad.
Applications for the GLM spring 2024 program are now open (the application deadline is September 15, 2023).
